Eric Clapton Continues Rocking His Slow Hand Blues

Hearing Eric Clapton play his guitar at the age of 66, isn’t the same as hearing him play at age 26, but that’s okay, because while the years have mellowed him out a bit, he is still the seasoned guitar maestro that fans revere.

Clapton has been playing his version of the electric blues since the 1960s, and has accumulated many hits and fans along the way. There are fans who remember the music from his early days when he played in groups like the Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominoes. And, there are fans that discovered him during his long solo artist career. When Clapton does a concert these days, he must span decades of popular songs.

Alas, when you come to hear Clapton play the music that you love, be prepared to hear a mixture of your favorite hits along with some great songs that are not from the top of the charts. Of course, you’ll hear songs like Layla, one of his most popular hits. But, you’ll also hear him perform numbers like Before You Accuse Me, a cover of a Bo Diddley song.

As an elder statesman of rock, there’s no doubt that Clapton has survived the ups and downs of his personal and professional life. His live performances are very laid back, and he prefers to take his fans on an extended musical journey through his own personal favorite song list. While he may have slowed down some, his guitar work is as excellent as ever – he’s still every bit the guitar hero.

No matter what generation you belong to, you go to see Clapton perform in person because he’s a true original. He’s that rare breed of musical artist that manages to stay relevant throughout the years, and fans continue to appreciate his many contributions to the genre of rock and roll.

This legend of rock is currently touring in the U.S. with dates coming up in Las Vegas, NV, San Diego, CA and Universal City, CA. He then crosses the pond and goes to Dublin, Ireland, other spots in the U.K. and is winding things up by performing several concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London . Tickets are still available for his latest outing, so get yours early to be sure you’ll get a good seat.

Even in today’s pop star of the moment world, Eric Clapton is still influencing young guitar players. A female fan recently brought her 19 year old son to a concert, and they both enjoyed his music and marveled at his level of craftsmanship on the guitar. Her son, who has been taking guitar lessons for four years, got home and was so inspired, he immediately grabbed his guitar. His mom happily exclaimed, “The best part after the show was when we got home, my son grabbed his acoustic and started in on unplugged Layla.”

As long as Eric Clapton can move his fingers gracefully along those guitar strings, he’ll continue to delight old and new fans for many years to come.
